Randomized controlled trial (RCT).

A study that randomly assigns participants to treatment or control.

A randomized controlled trial allocates participants at random to an intervention group or a control group, which may receive a placebo or an existing standard treatment. Randomization is the key move: it distributes both known and unknown differences between people evenly across the groups, so that a difference in outcome can reasonably be attributed to the intervention rather than to who ended up in which group. Blinding, where participants and ideally the researchers do not know the assignment, further protects against expectation shaping the results. This design matters acutely in peptide research because the field has a large gap between compounds with human trial evidence and compounds without it. The approved metabolic and growth-hormone-axis drugs have been through this process. Many widely discussed research peptides have not, and their reputation rests on cell studies, animal work, and anecdote instead. Quality varies within the category too: size, duration, dropout rate, and whether the measured outcome is something people care about or a laboratory surrogate all change how much weight a trial deserves. The misunderstanding worth correcting is treating any human study as an RCT. An uncontrolled study where everyone receives the compound cannot separate the treatment from time, expectation, and everything else that changed.
