Preclinical research is everything done before a compound is given to humans: cell and tissue work in vitro, animal studies in vivo, and the toxicology and manufacturing work regulators require before a first-in-human trial can begin. Its purpose is to identify a plausible mechanism, establish an exposure range, and detect obvious hazards. It is genuinely valuable, and every approved drug passed through it. It is also where the majority of compounds discussed in peptide communities permanently stop, which is the point that matters most for reading this literature. The attrition rate between promising preclinical results and demonstrated human benefit is severe, and it is severe for understandable reasons. Animal models are chosen because they are convenient and reproducible, not because they replicate human disease; rodent metabolism, lifespan, immune systems, and healing rates differ substantially from ours; and the amounts used relative to body size are frequently far above anything a person would receive. Cell studies remove the compound from the body entirely, along with digestion, distribution, and clearance. The misunderstanding worth correcting is reading preclinical enthusiasm as an early version of a clinical result. It is a hypothesis about humans, not evidence about them, and describing it accurately is the difference between honest and misleading summaries.
